Fitness Clothing

One of the questions that Nikki and I are asked most often is... What do I wear to your classes? There's no easy answer as what suits one person won’t be the best for another but shopping for sportswear is one of my favourite hobbies, so here goes! Starting out Don’t feel that you need to be fully kitted out in head-to-toe luminous Lycra and £200 trainers for our classes! A scruffy t-shirt and leggings are perfectly adequate, especially until you work out what works for you. What you should spend a little time and money on is getting fitted for a good sports bra and trainers. A properly supportive sports bra will save you all sorts of aches, pains and embarrassing moments - I like the Shock Absorber Ultimate Run bra best and if you’d like to get fitted for it, I find Debenhams in Newbury to be the best place to go. Treat your feet I think it’s important to try on trainers in a shop and ask questions about the best type for different activities. For our indoor classes, a flat sole is ideal as it allows you to twist and swivel more than a running shoe. Clothing – the best bit! The choice of ‘activewear’ clothing is huge compared to when I started Gemma Pearce Fitness! Every supermarket and clothing retailer has an exercise range now and they’re generally really good and inexpensive. It’s great to be able to wander around Sainsbury’s or Tesco and pop a pair of leggings in your trolley! I also love browsing around H&M, Matalan, TKMaxx, Decathlon and Primark for the latest trends in inexpensive sportswear. You don't need to spend a fortune on workout clothes, but it's good to have a set of clothing that you dedicate just to working out - you're going to sweat in them a lot! Breathable and flexible fabrics are worth looking out for, try long tops that don't ride up as you raise your hands in the air (so annoying!), and don't be afraid of the brightly coloured leggings that are ‘all the rage’ at the moment. Happy shopping - if you have any more tips on where to shop, please share them with us on
