5 Things You Might Not Know About Gemma

Updated: Aug 31, 2021

Apart from the whole getting fit thing… I think the best thing about fitness classes is the people you meet and the friends that you make. I love finding out about the fantastic people who come to my classes – and what an interesting bunch you are! I thought it was only fair to share a few eyebrow raising nuggets from my past too! Here are five things that you may not know about me:

  1. You may have noticed that I go all out in Zumba and Clubbercise classes, that might be because I’ve always been mad on dance. From ballet and tap at a young age, I moved onto salsa and then ballroom and latin dance at university. I even competed in national Strictly style competitions at an amateur level, eventually retiring at the ripe old age of 23!

  2. Many of you follow the antics of my ‘cuddly’ ginger cat George online, but did you know how George and I got together? A few years ago, George actually chose me to look after him after his owner had died. Not the boldest tom-cat, George hid behind my kitchen cupboards for months whenever anyone visited the house – now he owns the place!

  3. I grew up in Watford and in my teens and twenties I was an avid supporter of Watford FC, a roller-coaster journey of emotions as any footie fan will testify. With a premiership season to ‘enjoy’ and the play-off finals to endure, I certainly earned my black and yellow hornet stripes.

  4. My parents had an allotment when I was young and I grew up on home-grown veg and homemade food. I’m a big fan of healthy eating so I dabbled with a small plot in my tiny garden, and then a couple of years ago I was offered the chance to share an allotment with a friend. We’re going great guns now – with squash, green beans and fruit on the menu for this summer. Rock ‘n’ Roll!

  1. Travel is another of my loves but work keeps me in the UK more these days. Doing a languages degree meant I got the chance to travel though – I spent a few months living in Malaga, Paris and also in Stockholm. I have amazing memories of these times and the wonderful people and cultures I came across.

So that’s my story (well some of it!) What’s yours? Exercise is a wonderful way of boosting confidence and finding kindred spirits. This week, have a chat to that nice person next to you at class - share your story and you never know what you might find out in return!
